Garage, home damaged in rural Cowley County Fire Saturday

A fire Saturday evening caused damaged to a residence and property in rural Cowley County, according to the Ark City Fire Dept.

Around 7:15 p.m., crews were called to a blaze that began in an attached garaged at 23386 51st Rd., northwest of Strother Field. Firefighters had to work around a live electrical wire that fell on the south side of the home.

The fire started in the garage area, burned vehicles and caused some damage to the home, fire officials said.

An investigation into an official cause is continuing. A man at the scene sustained minor burns to his arms and refused treatment.

Damage was contained to the garage and kitchen area of the residence. The loss is estimated at $40,000 to $50,000. Crews were on scene for more than two hours.

County land records show the home is owned by Donald Hunt and Barbara Hunt through a trust.
