Man involved in pursuit is arrested near Strother Wednesday night

Cowley County authorities and the Kansas Highway Patrol Wednesday apprehended a Wichita man following a chase.

22-year-old Corbin R. Smith remained in the county jail this morning on multiple booking charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement. Bond is set at $16,000.

He could also face additional charges for possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. when officers were informed of a reckless driver southbound on 21st Road west of Winfield. Reports indicated the man was possibly intoxicated.

A traffic stop was attempted, however, Smith did not comply and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued toward Strother Field and Smith lost law enforcement for a time.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper located the vehicle traveling southbound in the Hackney area. Smith, according to reports from the scene, eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers searched the area and were able to locate Smith in the general area of the Cowley County Humane Society building. Smith was injured during the chase and required medical attention before being booked into jail.
