Ark City man pleads to rape charge, other counts involving minors

Ark City’s Darren L. Williams has entered a plea agreement with prosecutors and will avoid trial on sex crime charges involving underage girls.

The 37-year-old Williams entered no-contest pleas Monday to a count of rape and three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Multiple teenage victims are covered by the charges to which Williams pleaded.

Sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in Winfield. Williams entered his pleas during a brief court appearance in Winfield before Dist. Court Judge Nick St. Peter. The judge then found him guilty of the charges.

Once Williams serves his sentence, he must register as a sex offender for 15 years. Williams was represented by Wichita-based attorney Charles O’Hara. Cowley County attorney Larry Schwartz appeared on behalf of the state.

Williams was arrested early in 2016 on more than two-dozen sex-related crimes.

He has remained in the Cowley County Jail since his arrest with bond set at $200,000.
