Police to be on the lookout for speeders this weekend

Winfield Police will take part in a regional traffic enforcement campaign this weekend that is aimed at reducing fatality accidents.

Beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday, local law enforcement will join agencies in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma in helping to reduce the number of speeding motorists.

Officers will be extra vigilant when patrolling around city, rural, state and federal highways.

Police want to educate drivers about the importance of slowing down, not texting, using restraints and not driving drunk.

As speed increases, officials say, so does the severity of crashes.

“Even one death is unacceptable,” Winfield interim chief Brett Stone said. “Please slow down, put the phone away, or turn it off, and always buckle up.”
