Shooting event offers chance to learn about student clay-target league

A public fun shoot and informational meeting, for student clay-target shooters and their parents, is set for Saturday at DuckCreek Trap Club in rural Winfield.

The Winfield High School trap-shooting team has joined the Kansas High School Clay Target League, and David and Peggy Stalnaker have planned this weekend’s event to tell you more. Those who want to participate should bring a shotgun, 20- or 12-gauge, ammo and lawn chairs.

Lunch will be provided. The event is free, however, donations are welcomed.

Those who attend will also learn more about the clay target league and how to become involved. Student athlete registration runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 11.

Those in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in the leauge if: they possess league-approved firearm safety certification, meet all school extra-curricular activity requirements and there is room on the team to accommodate them.

The Stalnakers said the high school team bears the Winfield High School name but is self-supported and thus needs to raise funds.
