UPDATE 5:30 p.m. – The inmate who escaped from the Winfield Correctional Facility last night is back in custody. Lewis Mitchell was recaptured in Butler County late this afternoon.
He was found in the Douglass area after an extensive search.

An inmate is missing from the Winfield Correctional Facility and authorities there are asking for assistance in locating the man.
53-year-old Lewis Mitchell was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. He should be considered dangerous.
Lewis Mitchell is 6 feet 1 inch tall weighing 210 lbs. He is 53 years old and has black/grey hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white state-issued t-shirt and blue jeans or grey sweatpants, possibly wearing a red hoodie.
If you see Mitchell you are asked to call 911 immediately.
Mitchell has felony convictions for burglary and theft in Sedgwick County, according to state corrections records available online. He also has an indecent liberties conviction from 1995.
