Ark City Police Cite Man For Crash During Rainstorm

The Arkansas City Police Department cited a local man for failure to yield at a stop sign after a two-vehicle collision during heavy rainfall Wednesday.

Police and the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department responded to an accident at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Summit Street in north-central Arkansas City.

Officers determined Bedford Rush, 89, had failed to yield at the stop sign and cited him accordingly. The driver of the other vehicle, Shawn Kelly, 22, of Geuda Springs, was unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with Rush’s car. Heavy rainfall contributed to diminished visibility at the time of the crash.

Rush sustained minor injuries to his left elbow and right forearm, but Kelly did not report any injuries.

Both men were treated at the accident scene by EMS personnel, but declined transport to a hospital.

The vehicle were damaged to the point that they had to be towed away from the accident scene.
