The Ark City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man early Sunday morning after he is said to have pointed a rifle at police during a disturbance.
Shane Eugene Dieker, 40, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, battery-domestic violence, criminal damage to property, criminal threat and disorderly conduct.
All of the charges are misdemeanors, except aggravated assault and criminal threat, both felonies.
Dieker was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $15,000 through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody Tuesday.
Officers responded at 2:22 a.m. Sunday to a disturbance with a weapon in the 1700 block of North Sixth Street. They began to approach the house when Dieker emerged from it with a rifle in his hands.
As officers continued to approach the house in an attempt to get the 42-year-old female victim and her small child to safety, Dieker is accused of lowering the rifle and pointing it directly at a 37-year-old officer.
Police instructed Dieker to drop the rifle. He initially refused to cooperate with these commands, but eventually he was convinced to drop the gun and move away from it so he could be apprehended safely.
After further investigation, officers learned from the female victim that Dieker had come home intoxicated and yelled at her. She allegedly was battered and threatened during this altercation.
Dieker also is accused of causing damage to the inside of the home during the initial incident.
