Large Crowd Attends Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Cowley

A large crowd gathered for the Solar Eclipse watch party held Monday afternoon at Cowley College’s Calder Bonfy Amphitheatre.

As part of the event a few hundred free eclipse watching solar glasses were given out on behalf of the Student Life Office.

Cowley College’s Math & Science Club provided free pizza prior to the event.

“I was very impressed with the turnout and the amount of interest that students showed,” Natural Science Department instructor/Math & Science Club co-sponsor Mike Hayden said. “It was a great opportunity for students, faculty and employees, and members from the community to all come together, socialize, and learn a little science as well.”

Hayden thought the watch party helped students realize the grand scale of our solar system and the amount of energy released from the sun.

“I am sure that when the next solar eclipse comes around in the far distant future that everyone will remember back to where they were today,” Hayden said.

Along with Hayden, Director of Student Life Landon West, members of the Math & Science Club, maintenance workers, Cowley engineering students and Creative Writing students helped make the event a success.

Physics students offered tours of the labs before and after the solar eclipse. While, students in Cowley College’s Creative Writing class presented original works as part of the Lines & Lyrics event.
