An Ark City Fire-EMS official said this morning that the woman, who is 25, was transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center with non-critical injuries. He referred other questions to the local police department.

The shot – which reportedly came from a small-caliber rifle – was fired accidentally and without malicious intent.

Around 10:30 Monday night, emergency crews were sent to an address on W. Cedar for the report of an accidental shooting in which a person was wounded in the area of her buttocks. They arrived to find the woman sitting on the floor wounded.

The EMS official said the woman was later taken to a Wichita hospital for additional treatment of her injuries.
