Rotary Club Close To Construction Of Performance Stage at Island Park

Winfield Rotary Club members are ready to move forward with plans for a live performance venue at Island Park. The stage and accompanying structure could be ready for use as early as April 2018.

The club is seeking approval from city commissioners before ordering the basic structure from Florida-based RCP Shelters Inc. Private fundraising is paying for the project and so far about $54,000 has been raised, according to a letter from Rotary to commissioners.

The group plans to use local contractors as much as possible for concrete, stone, landscaping and roof work.

Native limestone and a natural color scheme will be used to help the stage blend in with the park.

Preliminary plans show the stage located in an area northwest of the park’s restrooms.

Rotary envisions the facility has a location for various live performances and will form a group to explore possible uses.

They expect to host a grand opening in April of next year coinciding with the 130th anniversary of the Winfield High School Orchestra.

The structure would be 30 feet by 40 feet and have a roof.

If the base structure is ordered by late October, construction could begin in early 2018.
