Two Accused Of Using Gun To Rob Winfield Resident Tuesday

Two local men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery reported in Winfield early Tuesday morning.

Just after 7 a.m., police responded to the 700 block of St. James Court for a report that suspects had used a gun to rob someone. No suspects were at the scene when police arrived.

Subsequent investigating led to the description of suspects and a suspect vehicle. Those arrested had apparently visited the residence, with the alleged victim’s permission, to purchase a phone, according to Winfield Police Lt. Mark Knoles.

“Rather than pay for the item, the suspects apparently had a firearm,” he said.

Investigators have yet to recover the handgun that was reportedly used.

Police arrested 37-year-old Cecil Derringer, of Winfield. He was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $11,300 and he remained in jail Wednesday.

33-year-old Joe Fann, of Winfield, was arrested on an aggravated battery charge and had bond set at $10,000. He also remained in jail Wednesday.

Both men have previous felony convictions, according to state corrections records.

The investigation is ongoing and additional suspects could be sought.
