Ark City Teacher Set For Court Appearance On November 7; Hires Attorney

An Ark City High School teacher, accused of unlawful sexual relations with a female student, is scheduled to make a court appearance early next month.

27-year-old Ethan Huff is expected in an Ark City courtroom at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 for a bond hearing. Huff was arrested last Friday and has since bonded out of the Cowley County Jail.

Huff is being represented by Wichita-based attorney Richard C. Paugh.

County attorney Larry Schwartz said Monday that he is waiting on some reports related to the case before formal charges are filed. Huff has been suspended from all duties with USD 470, according to a district spokesperson.

Ark City police officers were notified Friday of a report of an inappropriate sexual relationship between Huff and a 17-year-old female at the high school, which is located at 1200 W. Radio Lane in northwest Arkansas City.

After investigation, police established probable cause, resulting in Huff’s arrest later that day.

State statute prohibits people with certain jobs – including teachers – from having sexual relations with those over which they have authority.
