City of Winfield Takes Ownership of Former WIS Building This Week

The city of Winfield and USD 465 have completed the work necessary to transfer ownership of the former Winfield Intermediate School.

The transfer becomes official Wednesday.

An agreement outlining the conditions of the transfer of the property, from the district to the city, was approved by both parties in June of this year. The city plans to use the property, in the 400 block of E. Ninth, as a new public safety facility.

Once completed, the facility would house a police headquarters and some Fire-EMS facilities. The city will take ownership of the western-most building on the block and the district will retain ownership of the east building.

All subsequent investigations, studies, and evaluations of the property that were conditions of the transfer of the property have been completed.

Both city of Winfield and USD 465 officials believe that the utilization of the property as a future Public Safety facility is mutually beneficial to both entities and the community as a whole.
