Three Teens Charged In Burden Kidnapping And Robbery Case

Three people have been charged in connection with a September kidnapping and robbery case investigated by police in Burden.

17-year-old Johnathen B. Jones, of Winfield, has been formally charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, criminal threat and multiple other crimes, including burglary and theft. Jones was just three months short of his 18th birthday when the alleged crimes occurred and thus has been charged as an adult, Cowley County Attorney Larry Schwartz said.

Bond for Jones is set at $250,000. He is expected back in court Wednesday morning.

19-year-old Jaylen R. Jones, Johnathen’s brother, is facing the same charges but is not in custody. He is also from Winfield.

A juvenile female has also been charged with similar crimes and is scheduled to be in court later this month.

On Sept. 11, police investigated a report that a man had been robbed at gunpoint, attacked and left stranded in the trunk of a vehicle. The alleged victim first said the incident occurred in Winfield, however, that was determined to not be true.

Burden Police began investigating the case and formal charges were then filed.

The three are also charged in a string of burglaries in the Burden area that were said to have occurred late on Sept. 16 or early Sept. 17.

Each suspect is facing 18 criminal counts.
