Winfield Police Investigating Tuesday Night Stabbing Of Local Man

Local police were called to the report of a stabbing late Tuesday in the western portion of Winfield.

Around 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Stewart for the report of someone injured in a stabbing. The incident had occurred at 623 W. Ninth, however the victim made it to his residence and called police, according to Chief Brett Stone.

The incident was the result of a disagreement and altercation between the alleged victim and another man he knew. The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old William Goldsberry of Winfield.

Goldsberry left the scene on West Ninth before police arrived. He fled west toward the Winfield Fairgrounds and has so far not been located. Police are continuing to investigate and bring the suspect into custody.

The injured person had been cut with a box cutter and was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment of his injuries. An update on their condition was not immediately available this morning.
