Garrett Misora Scholarship Is Established At Cowley College

Family of Garrett Misora have established a scholarship for the Winfield man, who was killed in a car accident on U.S. 77 highway last year.

The family hopes individuals will contribute to the Garrett Misora Memorial Scholarship at Cowley College. With the one-year anniversary of Misora’s death approaching, the family of Misora, along with extended family members, recently made donations to the scholarship fund.

Misora died Nov. 20, 2016.

Misora was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 2015. He then chose to attend Cowley College on an ACT Scholarship.

At Cowley, Misora was involved in the Academic Excellence Challenge team and Jazz Band. He also worked in the campus library. He was taking pre-engineering classes and planned to attend Wichita State University after earning an associate’s degree from Cowley.

Away from Cowley, he was involved in the local Boy Scout Troop #318 and was an Eagle Scout. He loved jazz and swing music and played the saxophone in jazz band for six years. He enjoyed animation and was well liked on the Cowley campus.

To be eligible for the Garrett Misora Memorial Scholarship students need to be involved in at least one college activity or take part in the IMPACT program.

“It is the Misora family’s desire to keep Garrett’s legacy alive by helping other students who are similar to Garrett,” said Dr. Kori Gregg, Cowley College’s vice president of institutional advancement.
