An accident early Sunday morning, about four miles north of Oxford, resulted in the death of Amanda Villarreal, 24, of Winfield, according to the Sumner County Sheriff’s Dept.

Villarreal was a passenger in a 1990 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Adrian Ramirez, 24, of Oxford.

According to Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Westmoreland, Ramirez was driving southbound near the 400 block of N. River Road, around 4:30 a.m.

He lost control coming out of a curve, left the roadway on the east side and went into a ditch. The vehicle rolled at least once and came to a rest on its wheels in a ditch.

The passenger was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by Mulvane EMS. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Ramirez, who was wearing a seatbelt, was unhurt.

Westmoreland said he did not know what the speed of the vehicle was when the accident occurred. He also did not say whether alcohol was involved but an investigation is ongoing.

The roadway where the crash occurred is gravel and curves eastbound into E. 30th Ave.
