Texas Suspect Arrested By Local Authorities; Runaway Located

An 18-year-old Texas man turned himself in to authorities Monday, bringing an end to efforts to locate him and a 15-year-old runaway with whom he was said to be traveling.

Caleb Calverley was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, aggravated interference with parental custody and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. His bond is set at $9,300.

The runaway, Kara Hurst, also from Texas, was located by local police at a residence in Winfield. Her parents have been notified, according to Sheriff Dave Falletti.

On Dec. 4, the sheriff’s department was called to the 11000 block of 152nd Rd. for the report of a vehicle running into a fence. The property owner came out approached the vehicle and was struck by it.

The suspect, identified by Falletti as Calverley, left the scene. He and Hurst are said to have left the car behind in Winfield and fled on foot. Authorities had been looking for them ever since.
