Longtime Winfield Parks Director, Mark Olney, Will Retire April 1

After a more than 17-year career serving as the Director of Park and Land Management for the City of Winfield, Mark Olney, has announced his retirement.

His last day with the city is April 1.

“Though retirement is bittersweet I want to continue to stay active and hope to stay involved working with civic groups and helping with community projects throughout the year “, Olney said.

Willmoth said that the assistant to the city manager Gary Mangus will be the interim director of parks.

There are numerous projects that have occurred during Olney’s career, but one that stands out to him is the Island Park playground and how our town came together to build it not once but 3 times, twice due to fire.

The playground, he said, stands as an example of what can be accomplished when the community pulls all their resources together.
