Local Woman Struck By Vehicle This Morning; Semi Blocks Roadway In Dexter

A 42-year-old local woman was injured this morning when she was pinned, for a time, between two vehicles.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the 9000 block of 202nd Rd, south of Winfield. The woman, Terra Topper, of Winfield, reached into her vehicle to start it and it was apparently in gear, according to Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti.

The vehicle rolled forward and partially pinned the woman between her vehicle and another vehicle. Topper had been freed by the time emergency crews arrived, according to radio traffic.

The vehicle also struck two other vehicles.

The accident occurred on private property, Falletti said. Topper was transported to William Newton Hospital in Winfield for treatment of injuries that were not considered life threatening.

A semi truck blocked traffic near Dexter this morning after it became high centered in front of Henry’s Candy on K-15 highway.

The semi was pulling a “lower type truck for heavy equipment” and pulled into the candy story and became stuck, Falletti said.

Crews were still working to move the semi out of the roadway as of 10:30 this morning.
