Sumner County Deputy Improving After Crash Tuesday; Mulvane Woman Seriously Hurt

A Sumner County deputy was injured in an accident Tuesday night on K-15 highway, about two miles southeast of Mulvane.

49-year-old Steven T. Williams, of Wellington, was transported to Wesley Medical Center with what were initially reported as critical injuries. Deputy Williams condition has since been upgraded to fair, according to a report from KWCH.

Around 8:30 p.m., Williams was southbound on K-15 and working traffic when he began to slow down, moving toward the shoulder. A second vehicle switched lanes to pass Williams’s Ford Explorer just as Williams proceeded to make a U-turn.

The two vehicles then collided. Williams was wearing a seat belt. The deputy was pinned for a time in the vehicle and had to be extricated.

64-year-old Stephen D. Mills, of Mulvane, was driving the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van that collided with the law enforcement vehicle.

Mills and a passenger, 59-year-old Colleen B. Mills, also of Mulvane, were also transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Colleen Mills, according to media reports, was in serious condition late Tuesday. Stephen Mills was treated and released.
