Man Arrested For Drunk Driving In Accident Near Winfield Lake Sunday

A 28-year-old Valley Center man was arrested for DUI following an accident early Sunday morning that occurred when he lost control on ice while driving near Winfield City Lake.

Howard Ellington III was booked into the Cowley County Jail with bond set at $1,300. He posted bond and was released later that same morning.

The accident occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the 10000 block of 141st Rd. when Ellington lost control of a black Chevy Silverado while traveling southbound. Slick conditions at the time caused the accident, authorities said.

The truck left the roadway to the east side and rolled over, down an embankment. Ellington received minor injuries but was not transported by EMS.

A back passenger, Ramsey Khalidi, 25, of Augusta, also sustained minor injuries and was not transported. Front passenger Taylor Peterson, 21, Wichita, was transported by EMS to Wesley Hospital with possible serious injuries.

Another back passenger, Courtney Wise, 18, Wichita, was transported to William Newton Hospital with minor injuries.

Ellington could also face a charge for transporting an open container. Wise was cited for minor consuming alcohol.

Ellington was the only one wearing a seat belt, according to a report.
