Groundbreaking Is Saturday For Island Park Performance Venue

The Rotary Club of Winfield will be host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Performance Venue project at 1 p.m. Saturday at Island Park, west of the playground.

Community members and supporters of the project are invited to help commemorate the event. The project is estimated to be completed in May.

The Rotary Club is working in partnership with the City of Winfield and with the support of community to complete the Performance Venue project in celebration of the club’s 100th year of service in Winfield.

The prefabricated portions of the structure, which are engineered to optimize acoustic performances, will be installed when the site preparation and foundation work are completed. The Performance Venue will be available for community use, including musical and theatrical performances as well as weddings and other events beginning this summer.

“The Island Park Performance Venue is truly a collaborative effort,” Lucy Herlocker, Winfield Rotary Centennial Committee Chair, said. “Over the course of nearly two years our committee convened many community partners to identify a project that would improve the quality of life in Winfield and the performance venue emerged an exciting and clear choice.”

The total cost of the venue is estimated to be $150,000, to date the group has received contributions totaling nearly $110,000.

In order to complete project, the club hopes to raise remaining funds before the end of April. The structure will include a space for donor recognition.

“We hope to have a good crowd for the groundbreaking event Saturday,” Herlocker said. “It’s an important and exciting moment as the project takes shape and gets ever closer to providing our community a space to gather and share meaningful experiences.”
