Cowley Sheriff’s Dept. Investigates Sexual Assault Allegation Involving AC Teen

Results of a sexual assault investigation, involving an Ark City teenager, have been turned over to the Cowley County Attorney for consideration of charges.

Sheriff David Falletti confirmed Friday that his department had conducted an investigation into a case in which all involved were juveniles. His confirmation came in response to questions from NewsCow and KSOK News.

Falletti said no details of the investigation would be made available.

“We have investigated an allegation and have turned that over to the Cowley County Attorney. This involves juveniles and no names or details will be released. Since it has been turned over to the (county attorney) we will not be releasing any information,” the Sheriff wrote in an email response.

On Friday, Cowley County attorney Larry Schwartz confirmed his office had received a report on the sexual assault investigation. So far, he said, a full review of the case had not taken place.

It will be up to Schwartz to determine whether formal criminal charges are filed.

He said he believed a suspect in the case to be a teenage boy 16 or 17 years of age. He could provide no other details.

Though any alleged crime was said to have occurred in Ark City, the investigation was conducted by the sheriff’s department. Schwartz said it was his understanding the sheriff’s dept. conducted the investigation at the request of Ark City police.

Schwartz said that though those involved were of student age, no alleged incident or incidents were school related.
