Sheriff Offers Reminder About Illegal Dumping After Recent Complaints

Dispose of your trash legally, or face the possibility of a citation and pricey fine.

That’s the message from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. Over the last few weeks, authorities have been receiving complaints about individuals dumping their trash on roadsides and onto private property.

This is in violation of Kansas Statute 21-5815 Criminal Littering with a fine of up to $4,000, according to Sheriff Dave Falletti, who asked that media issue a reminder about the law.

“If Sheriff’s Deputies identify illegal dumping there will be citations issued,” he said. “So please discard your trash by legal means.”
