Winfield Rec Center Gets $5,000 Grant To Put Toward Outdoor Event For Families

The Winfield Elks Charitable Fund of Legacy Regional Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Winfield Recreation Commission.

The grant will underwrite the first WRC Outdoor Kansas Kids Day.

The idea of the WRC Outdoor Kansas Kids Day event is to get kids and their families to unplug.

“We are thankful to the Winfield Elks Charitable Fund for the generous grant. This grant makes possible an opportunity for community kids to experience being in nature and enjoying the great outdoors,” Troy Moree, Winfield Recreation Commission Superintendent, said. “We are hopeful that the exposure to new and exciting outdoor activities will spark an interest that leads to a lifetime of active and healthy living.”

Plans for the day include activities like instructional fishing, archery, rock climbing wall, trail hiking, pitching a tent, horseback rides, SNAG Golf (starting new at golf), and a hotdog BBQ lunch.

The WRC Kansas Outdoor Kids Day is scheduled for June 30 at Winfield’s Island Park. The program is free for the community.
