Ark City Police Make Arrests In Two Separate, Recent Assault Cases

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man May 10 after he allegedly displayed a firearm to another motorist while driving a car.

Daniel Ortiz, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He also was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear in court.

Ortiz was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $30,500 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

An Arkansas City resident came to the Arkansas City Police Department about 2:52 p.m. May 9 to report a man who had displayed a firearm while driving in the 3300 block of North Summit Street.
The victim provided a vehicle description and license plate number for the suspect’s vehicle, but officers were unable to locate either the vehicle or the suspect that day.

On May 10, police located the suspect’s vehicle and contacted the owner of the vehicle, who said her boyfriend had driven it the prior day. This man was identified as Ortiz, who was taken into custody.

It was learned during the investigation that Ortiz also had a bench warrant for his arrest through the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear in Cowley County District Court.

A search of the vehicle was conducted by police, but no firearm was found.

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a Wichita man Thursday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted a police officer during a disturbance.

Jaime Bud Lambert, 50, was arrested on suspicion of assault of a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct, both of which are misdemeanors.
Lambert was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He has posted bond and been released from custody.

Officers received a report about 3:55 p.m. Thursday regarding two suspicious individuals in the 1300 block of South Second Street. One of them was located in the 1000 block of South Summit Street.

During this initial contact, the suspect arrived at the location and began screaming at an officer.

Lambert was not compliant with instructions from the officer, who displayed a Taser in preparation for possible deployment. The suspect then stopped advancing toward the officer, but he allegedly continued to be verbally abusive toward him. Backup officers arrived and he was taken into custody.
