Demolition Crew Bringing Down Old Winfield Middle School Building

The walls of the former Winfield Middle School began to crumble this week. Caney-based G&G Dozer is overseeing the work.

The city of Winfield purchased the building from USD 465 for one dollar. That property is the planned site for a project that would include facilities for fire, EMS and police.

There was initially hope that a portion of the building – originally constructed in 1951 as a middle school – could be preserved and reused.

Further study, though, determined that was not possible. G&G Dozer was given 60 days to perform all necessary demolition work at the school, which is located at 400 E. Ninth.
