Winfield PD: Man Arrested Friday After Pulling Knife On Officers

A Wichita man was arrested in Winfield Friday morning after an incident in which he is said to have pulled a knife on responding officers.

34-year-old Robert Shrakes was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. He remained in jail as of Monday, with bond set at $26,000.

Around 10:30 a.m. Friday, Winfield officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Manning for a report of an individual refusing to leave a residence. Officers arrived a few minutes later and encountered a man, later identified as Shrakes, at the scene.

As officers exited their patrol vehicles the individual turned towards the responding officers and brandished a knife. The officers immediately started dialogue to deescalate the situation.

Initially, the Shrakes made statements to the officers that they were going to have to kill him, however, officers continued to talk with the subject until he complied and dropped the knife.

No injuries were reported and Shrakes was taken to jail.
