The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man Saturday night in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on July 24.
James Lamont Jackson, 40, was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated battery and disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor.
He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $50,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.
Jackson remained in custody at the time of this release.
Officers were dispatched around 12:44 a.m. July 24 to the 700 block of South Sixth Street for a report of a stabbing. Police and Cowley County sheriff’s deputies found a man bleeding from the neck.
The victim, a 49-year-old Arkansas City man, was transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Officers interviewed witnesses and learned a verbal altercation had occurred between Jackson and the victim. This verbal confrontation developed into a physical altercation.
At some point during that fight, Jackson allegedly produced a box cutter, and stabbed the victim in the neck and back. He then fled from the scene before officers and deputies arrived at the scene.
Jackson finally was located around 9:45 p.m. Saturday and placed under arrest.
