Car and Horse Collide On U.S. 160 East of Winfield This Morning

A Burden motorist collided with a horse early this morning and the accident closed the highway for a time, according to a report from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept.

Around 5:30 a.m., a silver Ford Focus was westbound when it struck a horse in the 15000 block of U.S. 160 highway. The accident occurred east of Winfield about a mile west of Cowley 1.

The horse did not have a rider.

64-year-old Steven Hanks was identified as the driver of the Focus.

His injuries were not believed to be life threatening. The roadway reopened to traffic after the accident scene was cleaned up.
