Former Winfield Manager Jeremy Willmoth’s Contract Buyout – About $92,000

Last week’s decision to remove Jeremy Willmoth as Winfield City Manager is expected to cost the city roughly $92,000.

That is according to details of a separation contract the city made public on Monday following a public information request from NewsCow-KSOK. City commissioners announced Willmoth’s departure at their regular meeting last week.

The agreement can be viewed in its entirety here.

Willmoth had served as manager for less than two years.

Under terms of the agreement, Willmoth is entitled to full payment of accrued vacation and sick leave, a lump sum cash payment equal to six months base salary, cash payment equal to six months deferred compensation, six months of full city provided family health and dental insurance at no cost to Willmoth, and a cash payment equal to six months of vehicle allowance.

Any appropriate deductions to the payment or payments, will be made.

Willmoth’s base salary as manager was roughly $120,000. The contract does not contain a specific payout total but city officials said it would be approximately $92,000.

Though Willmoth’s departure has been described as a resignation or separation, he is being compensated as though he was terminated without cause.

Willmoth agreed not to take legal against the city and is not eligible for rehire with the city. The city, though, does agree not to list Willmoth as someone who is barred from rehiring.

He has also agreed not to talk about, write about or otherwise publicize the terms of the separation agreement or details of how it was negotiated.

Willmoth’s removal came after criticism of the way he handled some personnel matters, including the firing of police officer Sean Skov. The officer left the force in May following a traffic stop that same month.

A video of the stop went viral on Facebook. Many had complained that Skov was let go hastily and without a full review of the incident.
