John McCutcheon Will Perform In Winfield As Part Of New Island Park Concert Series

Walnut Valley Festival favorite John McCutcheon will kick off a new concert series at the recently-constructed Island Park Performance Venue in Winfield.

His performance is scheduled for April 13 and is being presented by Island Park Productions Inc.

A non-profit group has been formed to plan an annual concert series on the new stage. McCutcheon is a prolific folk music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Island Park Productions, Inc., is the combined effort of eleven local organizations, as well as members from the community at large.

The organizations participating are: Winfield Economic Development, Rotary club of Winfield, Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Winfield Arts and Humanities Council, Winfield Recreation Commission, Southwestern College, USD 465, South Kansas Symphony, Winfield City Band, City of Winfield, Legacy Regional Community Foundation. Serving as at-large members are Mark Olney, Bart Redford, and Cindy Goertz.

The group is looking to fill a variety of committee positions. Jill Long of Winfield Economic Development is the acting president of the corporation.

“We are finding that there is a lot of excitement – great musicians are enthusiastic about the opportunity to perform at the Island Park Performance Venue and our community is eager to gather at the stage for engaging entertainment,” said Long. “In just a few short months families, friends, and neighbors will be carrying lawn chairs and picnic baskets into our beautiful park to enjoy free concerts by talented performers.”

Island Park Productions is planning to organize four evening concerts each year during the spring and summer.

These concerts will be free and open to the public. The group is excited to have secure McCutcheon to perform the opening concert in April 2019.

“We are thrilled to host John McCutcheon, he is the perfect voice to kick this effort off,” said Long. “We’re grateful to the many generous sponsors who are making this concert series a possibility for our community.”

The Island Park Productions Concert Series will be funded through sponsorships from local businesses and organizations.

Concerts will remain free and open to the public. Information on sponsorship can be found at the Winfield Chamber or on the Island Park Productions Facebook page.
