A Winfield woman was killed and another was critically injured Thursday evening in an accident on old U.S. 77 highway south of Winfield.
Around 5:40 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the report of an accident on the old highway, now known as 85th Rd. 67-year-old Virginia Hostetter was dead at the scene. Her passenger, 72-year-old Marvin Hostetter, was taken to a Wichita hospital.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a John Deere tractor pulling a grain drill operated by 72-year-old Arthur Davis of Winfield was southbound on 85th Road when a northbound 2009 Lincoln MKS driven by Virginia Hostetter struck the tractor.
The roadway in that area was closed to traffic as the scene was processed.
