Donald Hunt

Donald Walter “Don” Hunt, 84, of Arkansas City, KS passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Dave Stanley and Pastor Stephen Butler will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Hackney. Friends may greet the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Don was born January 9, 1935, to Walter and Anna (Mumaw) Hunt in Arkansas City, KS. Don was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1952. After high school he attended Cowley College. While at Cowley, Don played on the basketball team that played for the National Championship winning runner up. After graduating from Cowley, he attended Kansas State University earning his Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry.
On August 7, 1955, Don married Barbara Upson at the First Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Arkansas City where they joined Don’s parents as partners in Sunnyvale Farms. Don enjoyed farming, raising cattle and selling certified seed wheat. He also supported area agricultural interests including Cowley County Livestock Assn., which he was a founding member of, and FFA, where he served as president of the chapter. Don was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Hunt of Arkansas City, KS; sons David Hunt and wife Kayleen of Platteville, CO; Steve Hunt and wife Mary of Liberty, MO; Brian Hunt and wife Marty of La Cygne, KS; Stan Hunt of Dallas, TX; sister Jo Ann Sheldon and husband Bill of Arkansas City, KS; brother Bob Hunt and wife Linda of Stilwell, KS; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Hunt, and his step-mother Alice Hunt.
Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church, or the Hackney Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory.
