ACPD Arrests Man For DUI, Weapon Charge

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a rural Ark City man Feb. 14 on a weapon charge after a traffic stop in southeast Ark City, according to a news release from the department.

Darin Jake Pinion, 36, was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal possession of a firearm and misdemeanor driving under the influence (first offense).

He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield on a bond of $6,000 through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.

Pinion since has posted bond and been released from custody.

Police were dispatched at 8:38 p.m. Feb. 14 for a report of a possible aggravated assault in the 400 block of South C Street. A traffic stop was conducted in the 100 block of North C Street in connection.

The driver of the stopped vehicle, later identified as Pinion, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was found in illegal possession of a handgun.

Pinion subsequently was taken into custody without incident. The aggravated assault case has been forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for review of possible additional charges.
