A woman who stopped to help a man who’d slid off the road south of Udall early Friday morning was killed when another vehicle hit her car and threw her, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., Abdi Osman 22, of Wichita, was traveling southbound near the 9000 block of Cowley 3 — also known as 21st Road —  in a white 2012 Nissan Altima and slid off the roadway due to wet road conditions.

Olive Nyirabukire, 37, of Wichita, was traveling behind Osman in a gray 2012 Ford Escape and stopped to assist the occupants in the Altima.

Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti said the two were traveling together.

Nyirabukire parked on the roadway and exited the vehicle to retrieve items in the back of the vehicle. It was then that another southbound vehicle, driven by William Baker, 23, of Winfield, had struck the Escape causing Nyirabukire to be thrown from the vehicle.

Nyirabukire was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Baker was transported to Wesley Medical Center with injuries.

The passenger of the Ford Escape, Amos Nsabimana, 39, of Wichita, was transported to William Newton Hospital in Winfield with injuries.

The dispatch reported this was a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.
