WPD: Pedestrian Hit By Train In Winfield Monday Morning ID’d As A Wichita-Area Woman

The Winfield Police Department said in a news release the pedestrian who was hit by a train Monday morning was a woman from the Wichita area.

No name or age was released.

Police said the woman was on or near the tracks when she was struck by a BNSF train. Police were dispatched to the scene at 9:28 a.m.

The woman was transported to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. There were no other parties injured in this incident and it is an ongoing investigation.

The Winfield Police department was assisted by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Cowley County Trackers.

A pedestrian was struck by a train Monday morning south of Winfield near the Walnut River.

Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong told KSOK-NewsCow at the scene that an individual was transported to a local hospital and was awaiting an Eagle Med air transport to a hospital in Wichita.

The pedestrian survived the incident but was critically injured.

Police were investigating the railroad bridge that overpasses Amos Becker Road near the Walnut River while the train was stopped. Authorities were also investigating an SUV parked underneath the overpass.
