The Cowley College Board of Trustees voted Monday to appoint Steve Abrams to fill the vacant seat left by Nancy Burger.
Abrams
Burger resigned in July. Burger narrowly won her four-year term in November 2019.
Abrams served as a Republican Kansas State Senator from 2009 to 2017.
He is also a former member of the Ark City school board and was elected to the Kansas State Board of Education in 1995 and served as the board’s chairman from 2005 to 2007.
Abrams made national headlines for his anti-evolution views that led to action while on the state school board.
Monday’s meeting was held at the Wellington campus in Sumner County.
