ACPD Joins Nextdoor Social Media App

The Arkansas City Police Department has added a new social media platform, Nextdoor, to its outreach efforts, according to a news release from the ACPD.

Nextdoor is an app that was created to help public agencies to reach their citizens and for neighborhoods to communicate with each other — and starting immediately, the Ark City Police Department will be using Nextdoor to help make Ark City neighborhoods stronger and safer, the news release said.

ACPD plans to share important news and emergency notifications that are relevant to residents’ neighborhood on this social media platform.

Nextdoor is free to use.

To register, you must only provide a valid street address. This platform also allows ACPD to text alerts to citizens that chose to include their cell phone number in their profiles.

“In our continued efforts to stay in touch with our community, we want to utilize these tools to keep you better informed,” said Interim Police Chief Eric Burr.

In Nextdoor, citizens’ information is only viewable to their neighborhood, and the information remains private. ACPD staff will not be able to see any of the content on a neighborhood, except for the direct replies to its posts.

“We look forward to communicating with you on Nextdoor to make Ark City an even better place to live,” Burr said. “We look forward to continuing to serve our community, both in person and online.”

ACPD will still be available via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but please note: Messages on these social media platforms are not monitored 24-7. If you have an emergency, please call 911. If you need assistance for any other reason, please call (620) 441-4444 to speak with an officer.
