Individuals in Cowley College’s Golden Tigers’ program recently took part in the The Farm-to-Table Tour for its October trip.

According to the college, Golden Tigers participants visited three different family farm operations across Kansas.

The day started with a locally sourced, farm fresh brunch at KCK Farm in Anthony.

Katie Carothers shared about their family business and how it grew and pivoted through the pandemic. Then, the group headed to Elderslie Creamery in Kechi to tour their cheese creamery and sample some of their goat cheeses.

Finally, the group rounded out the day at Walter’s Pumpkin Patch in Burns, where they learned about their six week a year operation and picked out some pumpkins to bring home.

“It was such an enjoyable day,” Golden Tigers coordinator Micah Fry said. “Each operation we visited was vastly different, but each was a shining example of the entrepreneurship of the growers and producers of Kansas.”

The Golden Tigers program currently has 221 community members enrolled in classes, day trips, and workshops this fall, Cowley said.
