Water Line Breaks Discovered In Downtown Ark City Wednesday

Water line breaks in downtown Ark City reduced traffic Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

According to a news release from the City of Ark City, the Arkansas City Environmental Services Department advised motorists to avoid the downtown for the rest of the day due to water line breaks.

The planned installation of a new water meter in the 300 block of South Summit Street led to the discovery of several adjacent service lines that had broken under the street earlier Wednesday, the City said.

Water from the leak was reported up to several blocks away, and drivers were advised to avoid the area through at least Wednesday night, as the lanes of travel were reduced while crews worked to repair the water lines.

“We apologize for any inconvenience to local businesses or residents,” said Environmental Services Superintendent Rod Philo.
