Local Health Dept. Says It Has Run Out Of Rapid COVID Tests

A shortage of rapid COVID tests has led the City Cowley County Health Dept. to cease testing, beginning today.

In a statement to the public on its website, health officials said the department had exhausted its supply of rapid antigen tests. The shortage is primarily due to an increased demand for testing brought on by a spike in COVID illness in the county, the statement read.

There is also a nationwide shortage of testing kits.

The county has been testing about 70 people per day with peak days reaching 100 tests. Health Dept. officials plan to pursue some other forms of COVID testing but said those will not provide the quick results that the antigen tests provide.

Check the county health website for more information as it becomes available.
