Investigators Believe Early Morning Shooting Occurred In Rural Cowley County

An investigation continues into an early morning shooting that left four people injured and appears to have occurred in rural Cowley County.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept., Kay County Okla. Sheriff’s Dept. and Ark City Police Dept. spent much of Tuesday trying to determine specifics of the incident. Cowley Sheriff David Falletti confirmed this evening that investigators currently believe the shooting took place in Cowley County.

He said more information could be released as soon as Wednesday morning.

Around 4 a.m., deputies responded to the 7 Clans Gasino north of Newkirk for a report of three shooting victims who were dropped off at the location. A fourth victim, the driver, was located at Alliance Health in Ponca City.

Kay County Sheriff Steve Kelley said this afternoon the victims were two females and two males. They haven’t been identified by name.

Kelley said two of the three were transported by Newkirk ambulance to a Wichita hospital and the other was transported to Alliance Health in Ponca City via Newkirk ambulance and was being transferred to an Oklahoma City hospital. He said the three’s injuries include hip, chest, and stomach wounds.

The driver was being treated and released for a hand wound.

Kelley said because the shooting apparently occurred in Cowley, authorities here would handle that portion of the investigation.

A vehicle was impounded.
