Child Hospitalized Thursday After SUV and Winfield School Bus Collide

A 9-year-old child was hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a collision between a Winfield school bus and SUV.

The child was a passenger in a 2007 Chevy Tahoe involved in the crash east of Wellington. Emilio Silva, 28, of Arlington, Texas was the driver of the SUV and failed to stop at the intersection at Oliver (Dalton Rd.) and U.S. 160, according to a report from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Dept.

Around 4:20 p.m., the Tahoe collided with a bus that was westbound on 160. Winfield Middle School football players and their coaches were on the bus en route to Wellington for a game. No one on the bus was injured.

The injured child was ejected from the back seat of the Tahoe and sustained injuries.  The Tahoe was totaled.

No update has been given for the injured child, who was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment.
