Cowley County Sheriff’s Report for February 6-7, 2017

February 6

Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the 3000 block of 252nd Road for a non-injury motor vehicle accident.  A gray 2007, Ford Ranger, driven by Michelle Dykes, of Arkansas City, was traveling north in the 2000 block of 252nd Road when she lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.  The vehicle rolled over coming to rest right side up, near the edge of the road.  Weather contributed to the accident as the road was slick from rain.

Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a car versus deer motor vehicle accident near US 77 and 122nd Road

Sheriff’s Deputy took a criminal damage to property report in the 30000 block of Shady Oak Drive.

Sheriff’s Deputy took a criminal damage to property report at the north end of the Winfield Lake.  An unknown subject put a screwdriver in the ignition of the victim’s vehicle

Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the 15000 block of US 77 to check on an individual lying down in a ditch.  Contact was made with the individual who was walking toward Chautauqua County

Sheriff’s Deputy provided a motorist assist in the area of US 77 and 81st Road

Sheriff’s Deputy met with an individual in the 5000 block of 286th Road for a report of someone moving barricades

Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a medical call in the 7000 block of 252nd Road

Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the area of 212th and 181st for a person pushing a motorcycle.  No one was observed by the deputy

Sheriff’s Deputy provided a motorist assist in the 13000 block of US 77

Sheriff’s Deputy provided a motorist assist north of the roundabout in Arkansas City

Sheriff’s Deputy checked the welfare of an individual at Strother Field

Sheriff’s Deputy removed a deceased animal from the roadway at K360 and 12th Road

Sheriff’s Deputies were notified that an inmate, Jason Bell, had escaped from the Winfield Correctional Facility.  Deputies searched several areas and abandoned properties.

Sheriff’s Deputy arrested Dirk Flower for driving while suspended.  He was transported and booked into the Cowley County Jail

Sheriff’s Deputy checked on a vehicle in the area of 111th and 132nd Road.  The vehicle was occupied by individuals with a railroad crew.

February 7

Sheriff’s Deputy checked on a vehicle in the 20000 block of US 77

Sheriff’s Deputy took a report of possible child abuse

Sheriff’s Deputies were notified by a citizen that an individual was walking north in the area of 151st and 32nd Road.  Deputy met with the individual and identified him as the Winfield Correctional Facility escapee, Jason Bell.  Bell was taken into custody and booked into the Cowley County Jail.
