A body found in a rural Cowley County pond on Thursday is that of Cole Hartung, Sheriff Dave Falletti has confirmed.
The 32-year-old Hartung, who grew up and attended school in Winfield, had been reported missing earlier this month and authorities had been looking for him. Hartung was last seen by his father on January 18.
Then on Feb. 23, around 1:50 p.m., a property owner in northern Cowley County discovered what they believed to be a deceased person in their pond. The Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept., with the assistance of the Winfield Fire Department recovered the deceased body from the water.
Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Hartung died as a result of drowning.
At this time there are no indications of foul play and the case is still under investigation.
Authorities have not released details regarding the exact location of the pond where Hartung was found or how he came to be in the pond.
