Cowley County deputies investigated a report Saturday from a driver who said they were pulled over by another driver who seemed to be posing as law enforcement.

Around 8:40 p.m., the sheriff’s department received a report from a driver who said they were stopped by an older model white Lincoln passenger car. The car was said to have had dim red and blue lights.

The reporting party pulled over thinking they were being stopped by law enforcement.

A male subject got out of the Lincoln and approached the reporting party. The unknown subject is said to have observed a child in the vehicle of the reporting party and then returned to the white Lincoln.

Deputies searched the area and did not see a suspect vehicle matching that description.

Any citizens who experience similar type incidents are asked to contact law enforcement immediately. A location where the stop is said to have occurred was not included in the sheriff’s report to the media.

Also, over the weekend:

Freida Jackson, of Arkansas City, was the victim of a car theft early Sunday morning.

At roughly 3:25 a.m., Jackson reported that her silver 2005, Jeep Liberty was stolen in the area of the 20000 block of K-15 highway.

The stolen vehicle was later located in the 24000 block of 182nd Road where it had struck a tree. No one was in or around the vehicle when it was located. The driver of the vehicle is possibly known by the victim and the case is still under investigation.
