The JC Penney store in Winfield is one of several in Kansas that will be permanently closed by the retailer.
That store has operated at the Winfield Plaza for many years. The other locations slated for closure are in Chanute, Great Bend, Hutchinson and Lawrence.
JC Penney is also closing its store in the Ponca Plaza in Ponca City, Okla.
The company had recently announced it planned to close more than 100 stores but had not released a list. This list released Friday included 138 locations across the country.
The liquidation process, according to multiple reports, is expected to begin next month. Most of the stores should be closed by June.
About 5,000 employees are expected to be affected.
